Labour Office Update!

I finally got an interview at the Labour office, and scored a great interview. I interviewed the man who was in charge of the labour office. I have a few more details about him, that I will post tommorow with the interview. A visit to the Ministry of Labour and Employment was a great experience, it was something that I didn't really expect. I will be posting up the interview tommorow! I also have another interview sheduled on the 31st, which I'm also very exited about.
 Stay tuned!

Support for Your Realtives...

In Tanzania, there are many minimum paid jobs that pay for a whole family, including  cousins etc...  There are many workers who get paid decent wages, and they may be the only employed person in their house. Imagine having to support not only your immediate family, but actually all your relatives... What would you do if a whole family was depending on you?

The first Interview!!!

Here's the interview:

This man was a labourer who worked at a construction site, that is soon going to be a mall. He was a one of the few people that agreed to do this interview, but still had a few conditions. There will still be interviews coming up that will be recorded by video, and more information about the labourer. Enjoy!

(The text has been translated  into English, from Swahili by Robert Magawe)

1.) What do you enjoy about your job? I enjoy meeting my friends at work and talking to them. I also like hard labour because it keeps me fit, and I always have something to do.

2.) What are your biggest difficulties with this job? You have to wake up very early, and also sometimes transport can be an issue, because I have to walk long distances. Also sometimes at work, I get very tired because I do hard labour for most of the day, and sometimes continue my day without eating.

3.) What are your working hours? It depends on what type of work we're doing, sometimes its from 7:00am to 5:00 pm

4.) How difficult was it to get this job? It wasn't very hard to get it, I was recommended by a friend of mine, so I just had to be fit enough, and that was basically it.

5.) What requirements did this job have? I had to be in good shape, and also be available for all my working hours. It didn't have many requirements.

6.) Which labour laws do you know of, that you have to follow? my salary can only limited until minimum wage. I can't remember any others..

7.) What is your wage (If you don't mind)? -

8.) What do you need to do in order to get a raise? As far as I know, there is no raise, everyone gets paid the same amount. Although if you do not work hard enough, then sometimes your salary can be reduced.

9.) How much support do you get from your employer or company? If there is a medical reason, then sometimes you can get a loan, and days off. Also we sometimes get things like taxi fees, and some money to buy some cheap lunch in town.

10.) Do you get days off work? we don't work on Sundays

11.)Did this job have any requirements related to education? I finished school in my second year at secondary, and I still got the job. So my education didn't affect my job

12.)Do you have a family, how many are you? Yes, I have a wife and 2 kids.

13.)If you could invent any labour law, what would it be? I think increase the wage, because it's difficult to raise a family with a low wage. Also the working hours should be reduced, because some of us live really far, and we reach home very late.

That was the interview guys!! The video one's are almost done, they just need a bit of editing, and then voila! I'll post them up!

This interview couldn't be uploaded through a video because the builder didn't want me to know his name, or even have his face shown on the internet. I also have a YouTube account now! '

Here's the link :http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrrW7pKoQYqQAbI98J8yabQ

I just made a movie out of the pictures I took, so I could upload my first video for YouTube.

I haven't been able to post the interviews because there were some technical errors with the video file. Hopefully that's going to be fixed soon, so I can post it up! Tomorrow I will post up an interview, that I didn't record via camera, because the builder didn't want me to know his name, or even have his face shown on the internet.

Hope you guys enjoy it!
